Travel Inspiration

AND I'm getting ready excited!! I made a travel inspiration board on pinterest, and I decided to share my favorites in a little collage. My sister and I are going to study in Edinburgh for 2 weeks, London for one week, Paris for one week, and Cannes for one week! Eeep!! We studied abroad in the UK two years ago, so this will be our second trip to Europe. It will also be my first time to visit France! I've been practicing my French a little, but I'm wishing I had opted to take French instead of Spanish. As our departure date gets closer, we are getting more and more excited about our trip. I've been a little stressed about our finances, but I'm hoping that everything works out as well as it did last time we went.

Have you ever been to Europe?? I'd love to hear all about your trip!

Do you have travel plans for the summer?? Details, please!

  1. Eeeeee! Europe! So jealous. I have a goal before 2012 that I want to leave the country for the first time in my life and due to finances it's probably going to be Canada, but that's still exciting for me. :-)
I also am planning on going to San Diego in July for the Comic Convention there with my boyfriend and his cousins.
I hope you have the BEST time there and that you still find some way/time to blog while you're there. I must admit that I've grown quite accustomed and addicted to these posts by you! I don't think I could go over a month without this kind of happy inspiration.

  2. Oh wow, that sounds like lots of fun! I live in Europe, in Holland. I've never been to England but Paris is pretty awesome, I went there with school and it was amazing!! Have fun darling :)
This summer I'm going to Luxembourg with my family. I'm looking forward to it! Seven years ago we went to the same campingsite, so I'm really exited to see how it has changed (or not).
Well, I hope you have an amazing time and still find some time to blog while you're there!

  5. Wow, that sounds so exciting! I live in London, and have just fallen in love with it again after the atmosphere in central London on the day of the royal wedding!! I'm going in the other direction this summer - 5 nights in Toronto and 5 nights in New York! I'm so excited, I've only been to America once before, for 3 nights in New York last year, and I absolutely loved it, can't wait to return! Hope you have fun!

  6. In Paris, as long as you try and speak French first, most of the locals will go right into English for you if they see you are having a hard time. Love that city....I went there back in 2003 during their brutal heat wave but still had a fantastic time. Go to the Musee D'Orsay and have lunch there after you visit the museum of course. Best chicken gnocchi I ever had.

  8. Danielle: Several people have told me that most Parisians will speak English if you make an attempt at French first. I'm just wishing I knew a little more French! I only know how to ask someone if they speak English, where the bathroom is, how many euros does this cost, how to say hello, goodbye, and thank you. But of course I sound like an American when saying anything in French. Anyways! Thanks for the advice and the suggestion!! :)

  12. How awesome!!! I am so happy for you! I've been to Europe! A few times for vacation :) it was absolutely lovely! I did most of the tourist things in England with my mom. We walked around Buckingham palace, saw some castles and took a bus tour to Stonehenge. One of my favorite parts was meeting some of my internet friends for the first time who I've known for years and years. They took me shopping and showed me around like a local!

  13. J - I've been fortunate enough to travel to Europe 5 times so far (I'm old though) and have loved every place I've visited, but particularly England, Wales and Italy.

London is such a melting pot and a bonus is that you will understand *most* of the language. Be sure to ride in a black handsome cab and take the tube, which is great for people watching and just listening to all the different languages being spoken. I loved how right away at every B&B we checked into or the moment we arrived at our friend's house, they offered us tea! Go to Harrod's Department Store and Lush, if you haven't been to one in the U.S. (they are slowly opening in the U.S.).

Paris is unbelievably gorgeous and romantic! Careful where you step because there was dog poop everywhere (I'm not kidding).

Do you know anyone in London or Paris? On some of my trips we were able to visit friends/family/acquaintances and having someone who lives there show you around is really a fun experience! Even if just to meet for drinks or tea. Have a lovely time and we look forward to your pictures and stories.

  14. Sarah: Omg, the last time I was in England, I chose sleep over going to see Stonehenge! AND I really really regret that decision! I'm definitely going to be a tourist for that! Your vacations sound like a lot of fun! I wish I had cute internet friends to meet up with! That must have been a lot of fun!

  17. You are so lucky !! I hope that you girls will have a great time !! i lived in paris for two years and my best advice would be to ditch the hop on hop off bus and do all your visiting on your own. plan ahead the sights you wanna see according to your interest and not popularity. Also do try to avoid busy places like the louvre or notre dame on days when all tourists visit. Louvre has also a day that opens during the night for foreign students so make sure you bring any type of student id you may have with you . It also comes in handy when you visit other places as well . Some monuments event give discount tickets for under 30 or under 25 etc. The best advice I would give you would not to visit Disneyland during the weekend because most parisians have a yearly card and they visit disneyland every weekend with their children like the would go to the mall !!! Take a metro card not the one hat is called visit paris but a weekly pass or a ten pack of tickets . the price of the paris visit card is not even worth that cheap free bag they say they will give you at galeries lafayette. If you however plan to visit the places advertised in the visit paris card then you may wanna get it since you get some discount for their entrance. Last but not least I would suggest WALKING everywhere !!! no matter where you are going try to walk as much as possible since you will be able to see paris with day light and all those fancy night lights as well . As for a great place to eat and dring place d odeon is a great place to be since you have some nice bars, restaurants even chinese traiters ( fast chinese food but tastes great) and great AMORINO ice cream ( you just have to try that ). Also near he greek neighborhood are some of the best pubs and bars and there is a very small cabaret called trois mallieux ( something like that) that you should definitely visit !!! it is nothing like the moulin rouge or those touristy things it is really nice and with international music and singers !!! I could go on an on about Paris as you can see. Cannes are really nice to but dont limit yourself to that you can take a train and visit Monaco and Nice and they have really nice architecture !!! If you will be there during the grand prix it will be an amazing experience just to see how packed it will be during those days !!! Anyway feel free to ask anything else about Paris I am not a travelers guide but I always like to do the non touristy things when i travel !!!
